The meal-prep plan

Two dinners are cooked as four servings and carried into the next day's lunch, so you cook fewer times for the same nine meals.

  • Day 1 & Day 3 breakfast: Skirt Steak & Fried Eggs takes about 15 minutes, so it is made fresh both mornings.
  • Day 1 evening: cook Slow-Roasted Beef Chuck as 4 servings. Eat 2 tonight and pack the other 2 as Day 2 lunch.
  • Day 2 evening: cook Pulled Pork Shoulder with Crackling as 4 servings. Eat 2 tonight and pack the other 2 as Day 3 lunch.
  • Cooked fresh: Seared Tuna with Anchovies, Eggs & Bone Broth (Day 1 lunch), Beef Liver, Bacon & Eggs (Day 2 breakfast) and Surf & Turf (Day 3 dinner).

Time saved

about 560 minutes of cooking for 9 meals, compared with about 1040 minutes if every meal were cooked from scratch (times include hands-off oven or simmer time). You cook 7 times instead of 9.

Storage

chill leftovers within 2 hours, keep them in the fridge for up to 3–4 days and reheat until piping hot (74 °C / 165 °F). Keep noodles, rice and dressings apart from sauces so they don't go soggy.

What the research says

The findings this plan is built on, with the papers underneath.

  • Lennerz et al. 2021 (Curr Dev Nutr): 2,029 self-selected adults on carnivore for a median of 14 months. They reported few adverse effects and high satisfaction, with BMI down from 27.2 to 24.3. Among those reporting lipids, LDL was markedly elevated (172 mg/dL) while HDL and triglycerides were favourable. The authors themselves stress selection and recall bias.
  • Limitations (Kirwan et al. 2022 response): self-reported data from an online community can't establish safety or effectiveness. RCTs are needed.
  • Vitamin A: 100g of beef liver contains several times the adult upper limit for preformed vitamin A. Weekly, not daily, is the prudent frequency.

What this plan won't do

The common claims about this way of eating that the evidence doesn't support.

  • "Carnivore can't cause deficiencies." Vitamin C, folate, magnesium and fibre are low without organ meats and specific foods. The long-term consequences aren't known.
  • "LDL doesn't matter on carnivore." No evidence supports this exemption. The page should recommend lipid testing.
  • "No need for salt." Early carnivore, like keto, raises sodium losses. Broth and salt are built into A.
